Create an initial PO file A new PO file is created automatically with the msginit command that will make a copy of the PO template available in the .pot file with your email address and other information. Reorganizing translation works Starting point / Ideas Note: this is a rough idea, dumped off the xfce-dev mailing list for documentation purposes. Xfce's i18n infrastructure and documentation has lot's of old stuff, many things unmaintained but truly a lot of useful gems grown throughout the years. So following up here is a proposal for reorganizing i18n in Xfce, split into two phases.

Review PO file As a reviewer, tools to help you doing the job aren't very present, and the current Transifex installation doesn't ease the task either. When someone sends you a newly translated PO file and you want to check the differences you will need a tool to show you only the changed messages. Hereby you will find a quick-n-dirty shell script that uses basic commands.

Update the documentation This how-to applies essentially to project maintainers that are using a po-doc directory for the documentation localization. These projects use the tool xml2po and xsltproc. When the maintainer updates the documentation he must also refresh the PO files. Now when the maintainer receives an updated PO file, he runs the opposite commands to update the localized documentation and also include the new images when there are some.
